Notes from Luke

  • Think of yourself as a production company
  • Treatments - ideas, says mood, what you want to do, in images, for the band
  • Not a lot of bands want to be featured, have to use narrative instead
  • Have to have a performance element just incase something else goes wrong
  • Be objective about the piece of music you choose
  • Try not to use music that already has a music video as your piece is compared, setting yourself up to fail
Has to have 3 elements:
  • Performance element
  • A narrative- involving band, dancing, social issue etc.
  • Element of band/artist being ‘cool’
  • Lip sync
  • All elements have to relate to each other so you can weave them all into one

  • Shouldn't just be thinking about lyrics, think about the feel of the song and demonstrating the message
  • Start with the website so you know what the image of the band is like and how they are being styled
  • Your pop video is just one element of the marketing stage
  • Simpler ideas sometimes work better then others
  • Don’t try copy other music videos, it can be anything
  • Enjoy the whole process and see where you go with it!!
